Arch & Eddie’s, Jackson

Arch & Eddies salmon

This restaurant review is a bit overdue as we last visited in the fall. We had travelled to southern Ohio to watch our college-aged daughters play volleyball. On a recommendation from a friend, we took the whole crew to Arch & Eddie’s in Jackson for a late lunch.

Arch & Eddie’s in Jackson, Ohio

Located in downtown Jackson, Ohio Arch & Eddie’s Gathering House is tucked into a neat yellow colonial. There is a large parking lot with plenty of space to the right of the building and there’s on-street parking as well.

It’s hard to miss the Arch & Eddies sign downtown. If you like to people watch, ask for a table near the window in the solarium.

Stepping inside, the place definitely has a homey appeal. It was busy, but not overly crowded and the staff did a good job of observing COVID protocol. We were directed to the left and seated at an extended table in the solarium. Even with our large party of eight, they were accommodating and our wait was only about ten minutes on a Saturday afternoon.

Arch & Eddie’s Starters

I had heard good things about their fried mushrooms and firecracker shrimp for starters. I love mushrooms, but was a little leery. They always come off too heavily breaded for me. I decided to order on faith and gave them a try. We also ordered beer battered pickles, spinach artichoke dip and fried green tomatoes for the table. I’ll try the firecracker shrimp next time we visit.

These were my favorite fried mushrooms ever. They were deep fried in a delicate batter to allow the mushroom flavor to shine through.

The mushrooms were excellent and I wish I had made two orders. The breading was light and crisp. The pickles and tomatoes used the same batter and were quickly scooped up by everyone at the table. The spinach artichoke dip, or spin dip as the kids call it, was gone quickly as well.

The Main Course at Arch & Eddie’s

For the main course our orders ran the gamut from cheeseburgers and reubens to their signature skillet mac & cheese and pan seared salmon. That was nice so we could at least review different sections of the Arch & Eddie’s menu.

My oldest and her fiance each ordered the cheeseburger, or rather the house burger, and a side of fries. The fries were thick and hot and they enjoyed them. The burger, while not quite making her top five list (yes, she really has a list), was delicious. She particularly enjoyed the brioche bun.

I was feeling like a sandwich and my go-to is a reuben. Arch & Eddie’s reuben did not disappoint. There was plenty of kraut and corned beef and the marbled rye was grilled to perfection. I ordered the onion strings and they were amazing. The might have been my favorite thing on the plate. They were thin and very lightly battered, exquisite.

I enjoyed the reuben but these onion strings were easily the best part of my meal!

A few others went for the skillet mac & cheese and salad. Arch & Eddie’s mac and cheese is made with two cheeses, locally sourced beer and a very special bacon topping. They picked at their salads but cleaned up every last bite of the macaroni.

And lastly Natalie, our salmon gourmand, had the pan seared salmon. You can check it out in the feature picture at the top of the page. It was served atop potatoes, glazed carrots and spinach. The dish was finished with a lemon parsley butter.

Overall Great Food in a Comfortable Setting

All in all our stop at Arch & Eddie’s in Jackson was a great experience. You can find them at 181 East Main Street in Jackson, where they’ve been since 2013. Their brewery, the Sixth Sense Brewing Co. is conveniently located next door. And if you, like me, prefer to know-before-you-go you can check out their web page and menu online.
