Our Krazy Bins Experience – Mentor

The exterior of the Krazy Bins location in Mentor, Ohio

We’re always out trying to discover new things about the Buckeye State. We find out about new adventures from word of mouth, friends and family, travel articles and social media. For the last year, we’ve heard quite a bit of Facebook chatter on a small chain of stores in northern Ohio.

Krazy Bins

Krazy Bins is a unique shopping concept with stores in Mentor, Parma and Akron. We recently had the opportunity to visit the Parma store, which was located in a large retail store, perhaps an old Toys R Us location.

Krazy Bins sells all types of good from clothing to household items and everything in between. Each week, they restock their bins for their Friday opening.

On Friday, items in the bins are sold for $13 each. Items outside of the bins are sold at assorted prices which, according to the website, are priced between 50 and 90 percent off of the retail prices. Items that aren’t sold on Friday are offered the next day for just $8 each. The pattern follows, reducing the cost each day until Wednesday when each item is sold for just $1 each.

Our Krazy Bins Experience

We arrived at the store at about five minutes till 9 which was the opening time listed on the website. The actual opening time was 10 a.m., so we thought we were much to early. As we sat in the parking lot, a gentleman working at the store stuck his head out the door and asked us if we would like a number. “Sure,” we said, not knowing that we even needed a number.

I expected, since we were the only car in the parking lot, that we’d get a very low number. I was very surprised to find that the three of us got numbers 33, 34 and 35. It seems they start handing number out very, very early.

At opening, we all filed through the door in numerical order. Once inside, it was off to the races! Shoppers were perusing the bins, filling their carts up to eye level within minutes of entering.

The girls and I, not seasoned shoppers, took our time poking into this bin and that one and putting a few items in our carts. We eventually made it over to the clothing section. At first, I was cautious to add things to my cart without trying them on. Another shopper, however, told us that clothes and shoes are only $5 each. That removed a little of our reservations and we started picking things out.

Krazy Bins Deals

We had a wonderful time shopping. We didn’t make any life-changing deals, but we were happy with out haul. Some of our best deals:

Natalie got 10 pairs of Levi’s shorts (retail $50 each) – $5 each

I got some Pyrex storage containers (retail $25) – $13

I purchased a pair of ankle boots (retail $35) for $5

For my husband, I scored a pair of Dearfoam slippers (retail $50) for $5

If you’re looking for something specific, Krazy Bins is definitely not the place to go. But if you’re looking for a fun shopping adventure, you should give it a try. You may (or may not) find something amazing.

I would also say that this trend is catching on. I understand there is a similar store that recently opened near Dublin so depending on where you live, you may not need to get up early and go on an epic road trip just to find your deals!
